OYAJIIIIIII

It's no secret, I'm a hopeless 2D fighter fanatic, and Street Fighter seems to always win my heart in the end. Here are a couple odds and ends from the spring concerning my eternal main, the legendary Dan Hibiki.

And a bonus Zangief for good measure.
Good night, motherfucks!

EXPONENT: 2010 KICKOFF

Here's a lightning-quick update, fresh from Photoshop: First Exponent graphic of the semester!

This is that Danny Hope guy, a football coach here at Purdue. Would've never drawn this guy were I not bribed with money, but hey, it was fun!

Back to the drawing board, though, got another, bigger one to finish, also due tomorrow. Guess it's better to start with a bang than a whimper!

SHAKE, SHAKE

Okay, honestly, soon I'll be getting to new, original content. Working on a handful of character overhauls and Exponent graphics this weekend, so in the meantime there's more awful fanart.
Treasure is probably my all-time favorite developer, but you never see much love for them outside of hardcore circles who appreciate Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. I managed to scratch this out of an old rollerball pen before it crapped out, and boy, was it weird inking with something besides a brush for the first time in two years.

WURR GEESH DE BORK BORK

Here's another classic. I took both honor's art courses in high school, both of which feature an art show near the end of the year. Kids from AP and IB both have booths strewn about the gymnasium filled with their own pieces, and the two days on which it takes place is almost like a holiday; The lion's share of teachers spend their entire hours, if not that, the majority, taking their kids to the gym just to look at the (oftentimes under construction) setup and artwork.

The actual show took place afterschool, set with dimmed lights, catering, and soft orchestra, rather classy stuff. Very high traffic, lots of familiar faces, really the only positive aspect of taking the course because Mrs. Hanson has to be the biggest, most artistically ignorant bitch on VHS' tenure and every unit we covered sucked. Anyway, I decided to try something different the second time around and do a sort of live painting show, with a 3'X3' square of drywall and some black and white paint. The result?
This painting now resides in the ownership of a good friend of mine, who even took it with him to Illinois to decorate his apartment when he was in art school. The fact that people have my artwork adorning the mantles and walls of their abodes is one of the universe's greatest pranks.

I CHOOSE YOU

I drew this Pikachu on a napkin at a campus dining court last year.
Schuyler took the abandoned first draft and made it his own.
This is why we didn't go to art school.

VOLATILE MONOBROW

The last week or so has been dedicated to moving back down to West Lafayette and getting all our shit settled.

I don't want this to be one of those ludicrously sparsely updated blogs, so have this oldie, from high school:
The original was an embossed piece on stained brass, but I decided to ink the reference sketch. Bert's stoicism is unparalleled.

THE SADDEST DRUID

Here's an embarrassing admission for a classic gamer: I had a brief World of Warcraft stint over the summer. A friend slipped me a two-month subscription for some recruiting mount thing or whatever, and the end result was this:
Tagnut's brief adventures in Azeroth were traumatic and rife with sobbing and chicken noises. He was a cow-man that wore leather. He ripped the skin off animals as they gave off their death rattle. He often confused the bottles of Sweet Nectar for Bleach. He was even driven to alcoholism. As soon as the subscription runs out, I imagine Tagnut will succumb to the throes of manic depression and find some cave to cry in, naked, drinking himself to death on stolen pirate rum.

The moral of the story is: Don't let Max play MMOs.

FIRST BLOOD: 2009-2010 EXPONENT WORK

If you know about my artwork, then you probably also know that I'm a (senior) graphic artist for Purdue University's independent newspaper, the Exponent. I jumped at the chance to work there at the beginning of the year and I'm absolutely amazed they put up with me. With sophomore year just weeks away there will be many more graphics in store, and will probably be posted as they come... But for those of you who missed out on all this, I have nearly every piece from last year messily bundled up into one easy-to-swallow JPEG.
Credits and kudos go out to Kate Frist, who excellently populated those Polaroids with my bullshit, Rachel Tobias, who provided that wicked border graphic what frames Rappin' Jesus and Rockin' Moses, and Charlene Choi, graphics desk extraordinaire, who probably spent too much of her own time putting me on the right track drawing these, making minor (and sometimes major) edits and suggestions, and teaching me more than a thing or two with Photoshit. Working with the graphics team is one helluva ball, and I look forward to the oncoming havoc of 2010-2011.

Obligatory Housewarming Post

Suppose the last thing to do is test image posting. For those wondering, yes, the domain name of my blog has some sort of relevance. My sister and I spent one hazy night playing Exquisite Corpse and this was the result:
Thank you, and good night.
